Celebrating All Around

Recently, I traveled to San Diego to celebrate the launch of my friend’s book. It feels like we’ve been waiting ten years together for her debut. The book is called Louis Mattar’s Fabulous Car (Creative Editions), and it’s illustrated by Jordi Vila Delclos.

Here’s the thing! Ideally, there is a generosity that comes when we’re in the publishing world together. We cannot wait to celebrate a friend’s good news. It should not always be about marketing and celebrating our own books. Right?

I was heading to the San Diego Automotive Museum with one thing in mind . . . celebrating my friend’s book launch. But then came a lovely twist. My good friends Ken and Lori, who now live in California, invited me to visit their church and present a story time with my own book entitled, One Perfect Plan (Waterbrook/Penguin) while I was out visiting. At first I declined. This was all about Heidi, except it seemed like their small church, San Luis Rey Valley UMC, was excited about a potential visit, too.

I guess a gift to another person sometimes turns into a celebration all around. I journeyed to Heidi’s book launch, and she came to my story time. Guess that’s what true (author) friends do.
